On Saturday December 1st a long-time friend, Wesley Terry, and I will be riding our skateboards 100 miles. Why would we do this? Can we do it? I don’t know, but we’re going to try.
In 2009 we formed the Downingtown Skatepark Organization, a non-profit group out of Downingtown, Pennsylvania designed to advocate and fundraise for a public skatepark. The advocacy piece has gone well and we have gotten so much support of local officials and our community. We have also cleared all of the “red tape” and are ready to build!
This 100 mile trip represents a final “push” to get the skatepark started this spring. Wes, the rest of our organization, and I are committed to seeing this project through, and we know how much good it’s going to do for our community. Kids who ride skateboards, bicycles, inline skates, and scooters need a safe, legal place they can practice, as well as a positive place they can hang out with their friends. We never had such a place growing up, but the time is right with parks like this springing up all over the world.
Our friend, Mike Lalonde, will be joining us on his scooter to provide support and updates for everyone who is interested. Check out our indiegogo page and consider making a donation. Thank you!!
